Animation and export

Keyframes, animation playback, and image/video export.

Exporting static images

Click the export icon in the floating menu to open the export settings:

  • Output size — export at plot size or double (doubleSize)
  • Include colorbar — draws the colorbar and tick labels into the exported image
  • Colorbar position — top, bottom, left, or right
  • Labels — variable name, units, and custom caption text

The export composites the plot canvas, axes, and colorbar into a single PNG rendered off-screen.

Animation

For variables with a time (or any trailing) dimension:

  1. Set the animation range with the dimension slider
  2. Use the play/pause controls in the main menu to preview
  3. Open the export dialog and choose animation export

Animations are rendered frame-by-frame (including the colorbar) and encoded to video, so they can be used directly in presentations or papers.

Keyframes

Keyframes let you script camera moves or slice changes over time: set a keyframe, move to another state, set another — playback interpolates between them. The keyframes editor is available from the floating menu.

For reproducible figures, fix the colorbar bounds manually before exporting — otherwise each frame may autoscale its range.
